For those Who Are a Little Banged Up – Greg Albrecht
A Little Banged Up:
In the Academy Award nominated movie “Seabiscuit” the phrase “You don’t throw away a whole life just because he’s banged up a little” initially refers to a horse no one wanted. Seabiscuit was a feisty, hard to handle, undersized and overlooked thoroughbred race horse with a temper—a horse with an attitude—a horse who only seemed to eat and sleep too much. No owner wanted to risk investing in such a horse.
The movie tells us about Tom Smith, a trainer who specialized in rehabilitating injured and abused horses who was hired to work for Charles Howard, played by Jeff Bridges, who was beginning to acquire a ...
Love Never Fails
Someone once said that as old as the human race is, you would think we would have learned to love one another by now. Isn’t that odd since "I love you," are the three most powerful words we can hear?

Our Passionate Lover
Pain is inevitable in our lives, but, as we see it modeled in the life of Jesus, the suffering of sacrificial love is optional.

Forbearing, Bearing and Pouring Oneself Out – by Greg Albrecht
Friend and Partner Letter from August 2023
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love (Ephesians 4:2, KJV)
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2, NIV)
… pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing difference and quick at mending fences (Ephesians 4:2, The Message, by Eugene Peterson)
When we “forbear” or “bear with” or pour ourselves out” for others, among other things it means we do not act or react against someone, or say something negative about them, when we have the right (or think we have the ...
A Father’s Gift – by Ed Dunn
I first remember seeing it when I was a small boy. My father kept it on the top left side of his dresser in his and mom’s bedroom. At the time, I was all of seven-years-old. I loved to wear it around the house, as often as my father would let me. I can still remember how my wrist was so small that it barely stayed clasped and in place above my hand.
The item from my father’s dresser was a bright and shiny silver tennis bracelet. Dad’s tennis bracelet had a small silver plate in the middle of the chain that wrapped around his wrist. On the top-side of that plate, Dad’s name had been engraved in tiny cursive letters on its face. On the ...

He Can’t Stop Loving You – by Greg Albrecht
By Greg Albrecht—
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”—John 11:25
Ray Charles is one of my favorite blues singers of all time. The movie about his life, produced several years ago, won several Academy Awards, and was simply titled “Ray.”
Human suffering has given birth to much of our music, poetry, literature and art. The tragedies and the traumas of human relationships were the fertile soil from which many of the story lines and lyrics of Ray Charles’ music grew.

A Mother’s Legacy
Join us as we give thanks for mothers and the critical role they play in the lives of their children.
You Are Loved!
While we may often think of biblical examples where the picture of a human father is used to explain God's love, maternal examples used in the Bible are equally important. Join us for Mother's Day as we place the spotlight on God's unconditional love for all humanity.
Extravagant Love
A dinner in Jesus' honor is sandwiched between the death and resurrection of Lazarus and Jesus. With the smell of death in the air, Mary, Lazarus' sister, pours out an extravagant act of love.
Reckless Love
Everyone knows that dying on a cross is unsafe, but that's exactly what Jesus did. The cross of Christ is the perfect illustration and demonstration of God's reckless love.
Night Flight – Grant Corriveau
Watching the beauty of the night sky unfold before him, a pilot marvels at the grandeur of God's creation and the love that created it.
We climb northwest from ORD, and as we leave 10,000 feet the first officer begins slowly turning our Airbus A320 towards Montreal. Below, in the soft darkness of early evening, the lights of Chicago slide by. I take advantage of a quiet moment in my duties to enjoy the view of the western horizon. "Hey Dave, look over here.” I call my first officer's attention to what I’m seeing out my window. Because we’re climbing out of the earth's shadow, the sun appears to be rising. "Now we can honestly claim that ...
Trimming the Roses – by Laura Urista
A person who is good at reviving dead plants (or keeping plants healthy and vibrant) is often known as a “green thumb.” If there is such a nickname for someone who’s not very good at taking care of plants, I suppose it might be a “brown thumb.” That would come closer to describing my ability (or rather, inability) to take care of plants, bushes and flowers. My husband teases me that I have trouble just keeping silk plants alive!
But here in Southern California even a “brown thumb” like me can somehow manage to keep rose bushes alive, so that each spring we enjoy beautiful, vibrant rose blooms in front of ...
