Becoming Real – Stuart Segall

It's only been a few days since “Resurrection Weekend.”   Jesus the Son of God, finished his human, earthly life and was cast out of the human life and put in the grave.  Three days and nights later He rose and when He ascended to Heaven, He did, not as man, but Spirit, the ultimate change. As I consider this, the child in me also hangs on to another story. I am in a Velveteen Rabbit mood this wonderful late evening. This children’s story is one of wisdom and understanding on a higher level if you have “eyes to see” Let's look at one small piece of this wonderful and delightful wisdom, written by Margery Williams.   ...

True Listener Verses a Hearer – Stuart Segall

Can you stop for a moment and ponder this? This is HUGE stuff! This is game and life-changing. If you could pull over to the side of the road and take a look, a deep look within at this statement above, it might be that defining moment. Your health, finances and relational issues are all impacted by this understanding or lack of it. You might intellectually understand it but your default mechanism kicks in minutes after you pull back onto the highway of life and it is business as usual. I have spent my career listening to people. When you do it all day, 5-7 days a week you learn to watch the eyes and facial expressions to see if the ...

Aging Grace – Stuart Segall

Now in my eyes, in all my experiences, there is nothing more wonderful on my journey of life than grace.  Most especially, “amazing grace.”  Much has been written just in my lifetime alone about the subject. However, today, my mind is on another grace.  A human grace.  A grace that is helped by a spiritually mature person for sure, but it should be found in any emotionally mature person.  I simply call it “aging grace”. Eventually, we are all headed into the winter of our lives and when we join the winter club, we ought to be seasoned with some aging grace.  I find aging grace is like ...

Now More Than Ever…Look Up! – Stuart Segall

When we raise our periscopes, we are reminded that the world churns and burns around us. We see that hatred continues to grow, and even the climate tells us other universal storms could be brewing. We may sing “what the world needs now is love sweet love” but we just as much need hope. I love the song below because it talks about the hope that starts with forgiveness. It points toward what we all need..." better days".  Did you catch the “bingo” in the message? “Hope starts with forgiveness”.  Otherwise, you just have a “ceasefire” which in reality is just an absence of war or fighting on what is likely, a tempor...

Empathy – Stuart Segall

When you have developed your heart and mind to sense other people's emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling, you are defining, and more importantly, understanding empathy. When you empathize, in my visual, you become a tailor who weaves a magical thread connecting you to others. When you use it, a bi-product is you feel more connected to others. Primarily, when we empathize, we serve people by being compassionate people.   Empathy is a special trait and frankly, few have it.  Few can take the time from what they want in life to find the time to do this. In my work, I read the ...

Be a lamp – a lifeboat – or a ladder by Stuart Segall

“Be a lamp – a lifeboat – or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.” Who first expressed this?  No one knows for sure. They say “Rumi” did but that does not matter. What matters is that these words say so much!  Do these words speak to you? When I first read these words some time ago, it made me think about who perhaps in our life has been, or perhaps will be in such a role as this.  Do you think of someone who has been a lamp?  To be a lamp for another human is to be someone who brings light to the darkness, or one who helps light the way home.  He or she might ...
